No, really …. it is.

National Masturbation Month has actually been celebrated annually for nearly two decades.
Its origin is widely credited to an adult toy store in California called Good Vibrations, and the movement has since become a worldwide event.
This year, the observance is being stimulated by Women’s Health Interactive and Adam & Eve, perhaps today’s best-known source for adult products, and together they’re getting off the first-of-its-kind Sex Toy Challenge.
Over the course of a week, seven participants recruited by Women’s Health Interactive flew solo using seven different sex toys curated by Adam & Eve’s resident sex therapist, Dr. Jenni Skyler, Ph.D., LMFT, and CST. I’m not going to list my guesses at what LMFT and CST might stand for.
The participants – Kayla, Vanessa, John, Zoë, Kailin, Megan, and Wednesday – shared their self-discovery experiences using each toy in videos and reviews that are being released daily with a final wrap-up set for May 10.
Quickie stats from the Sex Toy Challenge:
- 49 different sex gadgets were tried for a test run
- 39 orgasms were achieved (not counting multiples)
- The average participant reached climax on five out of seven days during the challenge
- One participant managed the big “o” every day (I’m betting anyone named Wednesday is an over-achiever.)
- All seven challengers tried at least one style of sex toy that was brand new to them
The organizers say that by participating in such a challenge, anyone can become more comfortable with taking sexual pleasure into their own hands — not just during National Masturbation Month, but throughout the year.
